Karting Members and friends,

This past Sunday, Nov. 10th we had our first Winter Series race.  If you did not make it out you missed some great racing.  The recap is listed below.   We hope to see you at our next race on Saturday, December 14th.   Thanks,   Jim Fry

November 12, 2013

The Vega Tire Winter Race Series kicked off Sunday, November 10th with a new track layout at AMP.  Part of the recent track improvements, the new layout allowed the Public karting to run concurrently with the race competition.  And to that a shortened time slot, the racers had to get up to speed quickly in there one and only practice session.  The final curve ball thrown the competitors was the Race Director went ‘old school’ and the competitors picked numbers for their respective starting positions for the 10 lap pre-final races.  This meant many of the ‘fast guys’ were starting from the back of the pack in the 18 kart TaG Sr. race!  But it made for some great racing and the spectators loved it.  The exciting finishes created the starting lineups for the 15 lap finals.

KID KARTS

The first event was Kid Karts.  Jack O’Brien and Vincent Cortlilo had smiles on their faces for 10 fun filled laps.  This was their first time on the ‘big’ track.  Looks like O’Brien is ready for that move to Yamaha Sportsman!

SHIFTER / TAG JUNIOR

Running with the shifters were the fast TaG Junior competitors.  It took young Henry Brass a couple laps to work his way around Hunter Hazelwood, but once by he laid down some impressive laps and ran down and passed several of the shifter racers.  Hazelwood chased him all the way for a hard fought 2nd place.

CADET / YAMAHA SPORTSMAN

Zach Frank, the son of Shifter class winner, Steve Frank won the pre-final and looked well on his way to victory in the final when he suffered a mechanical break down with two laps to go, that left the Huguenard brothers to battle for the win with Austin in first and Brayden coming home in 2nd.

TAG SENIOR

Eighteen competitors hit the track for the finale.  After his pre-final win Brian Spek got the jump from his pole position and started pulling away from the field.  However back in the field after troubles in the pre-final, Grand Am driver Jade Buford was picking off positions one by one and finally by the twelfth lap Buford caught Spek.  These two put on a great race to the finish running side by side, but Spek was able to thwart Buford’s efforts and prevailed in P1.  Alex Sala drove a strong race and came home in P3 after an early race battle with Jose Garcia.

NEXT RACE

The next race in the Vega Tire Winter Race Series is Saturday, December 14th.  This race will be run with the Barnesville GSKA group, so we will be running 4 cycle classes in addition to our usual 2 cycle classes.  We hope to see you then.  You can find entry forms and information about our series on the TS Racing Atlanta website.
