AMP Karting Series Round 1 Report

T225 Senior Final: Al Edwards started on pole with Dela Debrah and Bhanu Yedla in third. Yedla jumped Debrah for second on the opening lap as Danny May jumped up to third. May continued his charge through the field and took the lead on lap three but retired on the next lap due to a technical problem.

Edwards retook the lead and swapped positions with Yedla as the two drivers pulled away from John McAleer in third. In the last half of the race Edwards began to open up a lead and took the checkered flag ten seconds clear of Yedla.

TaG Senior and Master Final: Leonardo Oliveira (Senior) started on pole and quickly escaped up the road. Craig Foster (Master), Jose Garcia (Master), and John Stapleton (Master) battled for the remaining spots on the podium. Stapleton passed Garcia on the opening lap but with six to go Garcia moved back into third and began his pursuit of Foster. With two to go Garcia made the pass on Foster but was too far behind Oliveira to challenge for the overall lead of the race. Oliveira finished 17 seconds ahead but Garcia still finished first in the Master class.

TaG Cadet and Rookie Final: Wesley Gundler (Cadet) and Austin Warner (Cadet) led the seven kart field to green. Kai Mars (Rookie) jumped Bowen Greene (Rookie), who fell to fifth, on the opening lap. Luke Giglio (Cadet) started at the back of the grid and made up three positions on the opening lap.

Giglio was unable to make a move on Mars for the final podium position until the final lap of the race to complete his charge through the field for the class win. Gundler led every lap ahead of Warner in second.

KA100 Junior and Senior:

Jacob Hughes (Senior) started on pole ahead of Anthony Hyman (Junior), Rory Flint (Senior), and Jose Garcia (Senior) behind. Raiden Nicol (Senior) started eighth and gained four positions on the opening lap. On the next lap, he passed Flint into turn one and then passes Garcia before turn four. At the final turn of lap two Nicol passed Hughes for the lead and quickly created a gap.

Hughes, Garcia, Flint, and Hyman battled over the remaining podium positions and Hughes hung on to finish second behind Nicol with Garcia behind. Hyman finished fifth overall but first in his class.

Lo206 Senior: Carson Craig starts on pole and maintains the lead as Matt Lassiter starts behind but falls to fifth by lap two. Yedla, who started third, makes the move for the lead on lap two, dropping Craig to third. Xander Laws briefly took the lead on lap six before dropping to third while Brandt Estes took the lead.

The final laps created a scramble for the podium places as Lassiter briefly retook the lead with one to go before Yedla gained two positions on the final lap to win ahead of Xander Laws and Brandt Estes.
